In March 2010 we reported the successful live installation of a massive Statiflo open channel static mixer (7.3m wide x 4.0m deep, headloss 20mm max) at Vancouver’s Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Works.  This mixer is used for chlorination of final effluent prior to discharge into the Fraser River and operates upstream of a 4.5m wide x 3.9m deep, headloss 55mm max, Statiflo open channel mixer for dechlorination of final effluent.

AIWWTP 266 - Vancouver channel mixer being installed

In October 2010 two more Statiflo open channel mixers were installed at Vancouver’s Lion’s Gate Wastewater Treatment Plant in the shadow of the famous Lions Gate Bridge, for dechlorination of final effluent prior to a sea outfall.

Since then all 4 mixers are operating to the complete satisfaction of the Greater Vancouver Regional District with chemical savings in the order of 5 to 8% and to specification in terms of headloss and mixture quality.

The mighty Fraser River is one of the largest and most important salmon spawning rivers in the world and its well-being is vital to the economies of British Columbia and Canada.
