As another tumultuous year comes to an end, with war in Ukraine, rising inflation and energy costs, economic uncertainty, the lingering effects of Covid and supply chain challenges never far from the headlines, we take our customary look back at the past 12 months while also looking ahead to 2023.

Firstly, we extend season’s greetings to you all from everyone in the Statiflo team and wish you and your loved ones all the very best for the holiday period and beyond.

Your commitment to keeping the Statiflo flag flying across the globe is greatly appreciated by everyone in the company – our partnerships with you help us to develop the business and serve our growing worldwide customer base, and are hugely valued throughout the group.

At the start of 2022, Statiflo entered a new era with a management buyout led by directors Paul Davies, Paul Buck and Carl Wilkinson.

They acquired the business from the family of our former owner and managing director Gareth Fry. With the transaction, the team fulfilled Gareth’s wishes. During his illness, he told the directors that his preferred way forward for the business he had built was through a management buyout.

We have aimed to build on Gareth’s vision for Statiflo and his plans for continued and sustainable global growth, alongside significant investment in research and development for new products serving a wide range of markets.

We have a superb team of highly-knowledgeable individuals working alongside our excellent network of business partners to continue to deliver this vision.

In 2023, we will be celebrating Statiflo’s 40th anniversary. Given the global reach of the business today, it is amazing to think that John Baron founded the business in 1983 in a spare bedroom!

We look forward to marking our milestone over the next 12 months and there are exciting plans in the pipeline which will position the business well for our next phase of development, and which we will be delighted to share with you in due course. Watch this space for the news as it unfolds!

Among the many highlights of an eventful 2022 has been heading back ‘on the road’ after the easing of Covid restrictions.

Members of our team and numerous business partners have attended major conferences and exhibitions across the US and Europe, connecting in person with existing and new customers and touching base with business partners and suppliers after an all-too-long hiatus resulting from the pandemic.

One of these was the South Carolina Environmental Conference – an important event for professionals working in the water and wastewater and environmental industries across south east USA.

Lou Mattaliano – our Vice-President, Sales and Marketing for Statiflo Corp – alongside local business partner Premier Water/DXP were able to showcase our industry-leading static mixing, gas dispersion, eductors and flow conditioning products, all of which enable the industry to efficiently and effectively mix and blend chemicals for the treatment of clean, potable water and wastewater.

Shortly afterwards, Lou was a guest speaker at the Montana Rural Water Systems technical conference and exhibition, highlighting the benefits of static mixing technology and gas dispersion systems for use in ozone disinfection processes.

In the summer, our technical director Carl Wilkinson and Rebecca Gernetzke, Statiflo Corp’s technical sales project manager, attended the International Ozone Association Pan-American Group’s conference in Las Vegas, where they showcased our gas and liquid dispersion technologies.

As well as exhibiting, we were thrilled to support the event by being a silver sponsor for the first time.

The water and wastewater treatment industry is increasingly turning to ozone as the oxidizing agent of choice to remove contaminants, and we have seen a sharp increase in orders for our gas dispersion system from treatment plants across the US during the past couple of years.

We are seeing more enquiries and orders than ever, and expect this trend to continue.

Meanwhile, we were delighted to be in Munich for this year’s IFAT exhibition – the world’s leading trade fair for the water, sewage, wastewater and raw materials management sector.

A five-strong Statiflo delegation enjoyed a successful visit, with great interest shown in our non-ragging mixers for the wastewater industry, especially in the light of recent EU directives designed to lower phosphorus levels in discharged water.

WEFTEC 2022 also proved a resounding success for Statiflo. The Water Environment Federation’s annual technical exhibition – the world’s largest event for the sector – took place in New Orleans.

It provided Lou, Rebecca and Carl and sales director Paul Buck with another exciting opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of our technology to the water quality industry and to network with engineers, plant personnel and our business partners.

At WEFTEC we were also thrilled to honour four of our outstanding US business partners for their exceptional performances over the past year – Premier Water/DXP, California Environmental Controls, Environmental Technical Sales, Inc, and Environmental Improvements, Inc.

Other recent US events attended by the Statiflo Corp team and business partners have included the American Water Works Association Florida Section Annual Conference in Orlando and the North Carolina One Water Annual Conference in Charlotte.

In the first half of 2023, we look forward to attending further US shows, including the New England Water Environmental Association Conference in Boston, the American Petroleum Institute’s Spring Conference in San Antonio, Texas, and Texas Water, a joint conference of the Water Environmental Association of Texas and the Texas Section American Water Works Association, which takes place in Houston in April.

While on the theme of the US, we are delighted to have recently welcomed Great Northern Environmental, based in Oakdale, Minnesota, as our newest business partner. Great Northern Environmental will be covering North and South Dakota and Minnesota for Statiflo, with a focus on the municipal water and wastewater treatment sectors. We wish them a long and successful partnership with Statiflo.

We look forward to them, and indeed all of our business partners, continuing to play key roles in delivering high levels of service to our customers across the world.

With this in mind, it was extremely gratifying to see that one of our customers recently shared a report on the successful installation of a static mixer which reduced the use of coagulant in a water treatment process in France.

The customer had been seeking a simple and reliable way to improve the flash mixing of the coagulant in the water to be treated, and to limit the use of chlorine upstream and slurry in activated carbon downstream.

The company had been looking to replace existing piping without generating too much pressure drop. Immediately following the installation of our static mixer, the amount of coagulant injected sharply decreased, and the savings gave a return on the investment in less than five months by reducing the amount of chemicals required by 25 per cent, providing downstream opportunities outlined above and creating significant energy savings.

Here’s to many more similar success stories in 2023!

We are positive about the outlook for the business in the next 12 months, and we look forward to working with you to achieve our goals.

Wishing you all a successful and prosperous year ahead!

Please note our offices will be closed from midday on December 23rd and will reopen on January 3rd 2023.
